Why we exist
StreamHub started from a frustration most people share: every time you find a video you want to keep — a tutorial that taught you something, a class your kid is enrolled in, a clip that might disappear next month — saving it shouldn't feel like a back-alley deal.
The web is full of generic "downloaders" that bury you in popups, sneak adware into installers, or quietly stop working when a site updates. We didn't want one more of those. We wanted a grown-up Windows app: one you'd be comfortable opening on your work laptop, recommending to your parents, or leaving running overnight.
That's StreamHub.
What we make
StreamHub is a focused, all-in-one Windows desktop app for saving videos and playlists from the streaming sites you already use. Three things make it different from the long tail of "video downloaders" out there:
- A real built-in browser. Sign in to your accounts, browse normally, and start a download from the page you're on — no copy-pasting URLs, no extensions to manage.
- A reliable download queue. Progress reflects reality. Pauses survive a restart. Failed jobs explain why they failed, in language a human can act on.
- The small details that matter. Quality picker, subtitles in the language you actually want, channel subscriptions that auto-pull new uploads, and scheduled downloads for off-peak hours.
We deliberately don't do everything. We don't try to be a media player, a video editor, or a cloud service. The job is "get the video onto your disk, cleanly" — and we want to be the best on Windows at exactly that.
Principles we hold
These aren't slogans. They show up in pull requests, bug triage, and the way we say no to feature requests:
- Calm over flashy. No popups asking you to upgrade. No notification badges fighting for attention. The app should feel like a good utility — quiet, dependable, out of your way.
- Honesty in progress. A 47% bar means 47% of the work is actually done. If we can't determine real progress, we say so instead of faking it.
- Recoverable by design. Network drops, sites changing layouts, the laptop closing — none of these should lose your queue. Resume picks up where it left off.
- Local first. Your library, your account cookies, your queue history — all of it lives on your machine. We don't need a copy.
- Polite to the sites we work with. We respect rate limits, we don't strip DRM, and we encourage paying creators directly when you can.
Who it's for
StreamHub is built for the people who already know why they want a downloader:
- Educators and students archiving lectures, tutorials, and reference talks before they vanish.
- Researchers and journalists preserving primary sources from social and video platforms.
- Creators keeping clean copies of their own uploads, in original quality, for re-edits and re-uploads.
- Travelers and commuters loading up a tablet for offline viewing on a flight or a long train ride.
- Anyone with patchy internet who'd rather queue a few playlists overnight than buffer through them all week.
If your use case is among these, we built this for you.
What's under the hood
A few things we get asked often, answered briefly:
- Sites supported. YouTube, Vimeo, Bilibili, Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, Twitch, Dailymotion and 1000+ more. Single videos, multi-part playlists, and entire channels are all in scope.
- Quality. Up to the highest resolution the source actually offers, including 4K and 8K when available. We don't upscale or fake quality.
- Subtitles. Auto-generated and human-uploaded subtitles, in any language the source provides; embedded in the file or saved alongside it as
.srt. - Formats. MP4 or MKV with H.264, H.265 / HEVC, VP9, or AV1 — your choice, based on the device you'll watch on. We save the source stream as-is, without re-encoding.
- Performance. Multi-threaded downloads with smart segment retries. Slow networks get fewer, longer segments; fast networks get parallelism.
If you're a power user who wants more depth, the in-app Help → Diagnostics panel exposes the actual fetch logs.
How we ship
We ship StreamHub through Microsoft Store, exclusively.
That decision wasn't accidental. The Store gives you:
- A verified publisher, so you know the binary is the same one we built and signed.
- Automatic, secure updates — no installer hunting, no "is this site safe?" moments.
- Sandboxed installation that respects your account permissions.
- Easy reinstall and license restore if you move to a new PC.
If a site offers you a "StreamHub installer" outside the Store, treat it as suspicious — it isn't from us.
Privacy and responsibility
We treat your data the way we'd want ours treated.
- The app runs locally. Your downloaded files, browsing history inside the built-in browser, and queue state never leave your machine unless you explicitly export them.
- Telemetry is limited to anonymous, aggregate stability and feature-usage signals — the kind of thing that tells us "this button is broken on Windows 11" without telling us who you are. You can turn it off.
- We don't sell data. We don't have data to sell.
For the full legal version, see our Privacy Policy and Terms & License.
What we're working on
A few of the things on our list, in no particular order:
- Better subtitle handling, including auto-translation for less-covered languages.
- Smarter playlist deduplication for people who subscribe to overlapping channels.
- Format presets ("for my Apple TV", "for my Plex library") so you don't have to remember codecs.
- Faster, gentler updates that don't interrupt an in-flight download.
If you have an opinion on what should be next, we'd love to hear it.
